💡 Good to Know

The 4:30 AM departure gets you to Waianapanapa for sunrise on an empty black sand beach. No swimming at Waianapanapa — dangerous undertow, so it's a 1 hr 15 min look-and-photo stop. Then 10 min south to Hamoa Beach for the real swim (much safer water, porta-potty & rinse shower on site). After that, drive west all day with the sun behind you. Mac-Nut Brittle closes at noon — drop it if anything ran long earlier. Home by 5:10 PM.

Lahaina — Historic Banyan Tree (please read)Optional

Lahaina's beloved 150-year-old banyan tree survived the 2023 wildfire and is slowly recovering — a real symbol of the town's resilience. Important, as of 2026: Banyan Tree Park and the Front Street historic core are still closed to the public for recovery. You cannot walk up to the tree, and the county asks visitors not to drive through the burn zone to view or photograph it. The respectful way to see it is from the water on a Lahaina Harbor boat tour. Please follow all posted signage and barriers — the community is still rebuilding.

  • The tree is alive & showing new green growth — a symbol of Lahaina's resilience
  • Park & Front St core are closed — no walking up to the tree, and don't drive through the burn zone
  • To see it respectfully: a Lahaina Harbor tour (snorkel sail / sunset cruise) views it from the water
  • Support recovery: eat & shop at reopened West Maui businesses (Ka'anapali, Honokowai, Kapalua)
